Emil Ibrahim Mammadov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan. A jazz pianist and composer belonging to the contemporary generation of Azeri Jazz musicians grew up in the artistic environment and jazz art was an essential part of it. He started practicing music at the age of four. Emil studied piano in Central Musical School for gifted children named after Bul-Bul, he also studied Conductor arts at Baku Musical Academy. His father, a famous Azeri composer Ibrahim Mammadov and his elder brother, a classical pianist and composer Elchin Mammadov, were also interested in jazz art.
"My father used to listen to jazz records and liked orchestra jazz, big band and Cuban Jazz a lot. He introduced the world of music to me, showed the music of different epochs and styles, and taught how to "listen" to musical instruments and understand their nature and abilities." Ability to find fusion, in the best sense of the word, of Jazz, Classical, Latin, Folk music such as Mugam and other cultures reveals Emil Ibrahim’s remarkable talents as a performer and composer, as well as his intelligent and fearless challenge to experiments. His experiments cover even modern electronic music in search of new sounds.
His brilliant and technically flawless pianism hooks us with its incredible inner power and unexplainable vitality. Moreover, the energy he gives to the audience is balancing his calm and quiet manner of performing on the stage. Regardless of the type of music he performs, including lyric ballads and master compositions of postbop, his play is always emotionally contagious. In addition, he is often invited to compose music for TV programs and soundtracks for movies, to act as a musical producer for various projects, which he performs perfectly and with pleasure. Emil Ibrahim recorded his Tetralogia album in 2005, and recently he produced and arranged Sevda Alekperzade’s "Shebi Hijran" project.
